Tonye Aganaba is a singer-songwriter born in London, England to a Nigerian father and a Zimbabwean mother. They immigrated to so-called Canada at the age of 13. Born in London, England, raised in Northern Canada, Tonye Aganaba is now based in Vancouver. Tonye Aganaba is a Black African queer and non-binary multidisciplinary artist, musician, and community worker living on the unceded ancestral territories of the Musqueam, Squamish & Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. Her style can be described as Soul/Neo-Folk/Hiphop. In 2011 she gained notoriety within the electronic world following her number one Dubstep track So Good with Vancouver's Hirshee, released on Beatport through Big Fish Recordings. Tonye has released over thirty singles with various producers from Canada and beyond, opened for such heavyweight acts as Ziggy Marley, Ky-Mani Marley and Yellowman. Tonye Aganaba is an actress and producer, known for Single & Dating in Vancouver (2013), Mob Kingdom (2014) and Zombies of Oz: Tin (2012). At age 31, she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, a neurological condition whose myriad symptoms can include impaired vision and sensation, fatigue, compromised coordination, and much more. Her new album Something Comfortable is a devotional endeavour inspired by their battle with multiple sclerosis. Tonye Aganaba's powerful voice, genre-defying music, and commitment to community work have made them an important voice in Vancouver's music scene, using their platform to advocate for LGBTQ2+ and Black communities.
