Raine Hamilton is a classical violinist and musicologist by training who has toured as a professional singer-songwriter and chamber folk artist since 2014. They are based in Winnipeg, Manitoba on Treaty 1 territory. They create chamber-folk, a hybrid of the classical tradition of string quartet chamber music with singer-songwriter folk. Raine holds a Master's degree in Medieval Musicology and invites deep love of the violin into the singer-songwriter genre, writing for violin and voice, as well as for guitar and voice. Raine received the 2018 Canadian Folk Music Award for Emerging Artist of the Year. They have released albums including Past Your Past in 2015 and Night Sky in 2018. Their latest work, Brave Land released in 2021-22, is a concept album about mountains and the courage, wisdom, and otherworldly connection they represent. They have performed with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, and at festivals including Vancouver Folk Festival. Raine offers concerts with American Sign Language interpretation to make live music more accessible to the Deaf community. They also instruct workshops on songwriting and fiddle tune writing in English and French. Hamilton's distinctive chamber-folk sound combines classical training with contemporary folk sensibilities, creating intricate, emotionally resonant music that bridges multiple traditions. Their commitment to accessibility and education, combined with their musical innovation, has made them a respected voice in Canadian folk music.
