Evans & Doherty is a Canadian folk duo consisting of Kevin Evans and Brian Doherty, based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Kevin Evans and Brian Doherty have been an integral part of the East Coast music scene for over four decades and have been together as Evans & Doherty for 39 years. Doherty left his previous band Barley Bree around the same time that Evans was departing The Garrison Brothers. The pair decided to perform together to "keep our hands agile," and began playing regularly at an Irish pub called O'Carroll's in Halifax, performing five to six nights every other week for 15 years. Evans & Doherty have taken their music outside North America, playing in places as far afield as East Germany and New Zealand. The group recently acknowledged their accomplishment with the release of a two-disc set of 30 songs called "30 Years of Folkin' Around." Evans & Doherty eventually opened a pub of their own, The Old Triangle. Brian owns and operates Eastern Entertainment Agency, a booking agency and production company, while Kevin owns and operates Modtrad Music, a publishing company. As songwriters, they've achieved notable success: Kevin's song "Christmas Memories" achieved platinum status in Canada for John McDermott, and Tommy Makem and Liam Clancy recorded "The Orchard," another of Kevin's songs. Their music is characterized by Celtic influences, strong harmonies, and engaging storytelling, reflecting their deep roots in the Atlantic Canadian folk tradition.
