Charlotte Cornfield, born October 14, 1988, is a Canadian singer-songwriter from Toronto, Ontario. Cornfield was born to an Israeli Jewish father, a classical musician and radio producer, and a mother from Toronto who was a journalist and magazine editor. She moved to Montreal in 2006 to study jazz drumming, finishing her degree in Spring 2010. She then hit the road as the drummer for several bands, including Bent By Elephants, Takk, The Keys (Fr), and Panoramic & True (US). She has released five albums: "Two Horses" (2011), "Future Snowbird" (2016), "The Shape of Your Name" (2019), "Highs in the Minuses" (2021), and "Could Have Done Anything" (2023). Cornfield's second album "Future Snowbird" was released in March 2016 through Consonant Records. The album was recorded live at Rooster Studios in Toronto, Ontario, was produced by Don Kerr, and features appearances from Tim Darcy of Ought and Johnny Spence of Tegan and Sara. "The Shape of Your Name" was longlisted for the 2019 Polaris Music Prize. Canadian singer-songwriter-multi-instrumentalist Charlotte Cornfield brings an almost startling level of vulnerability to her narrative indie songs. Cornfield is a sharp-eyed songwriter who, like her contemporary Courtney Barnett, is particularly adept at both reinforcing and undercutting the emotional core of her narratives with quotidian detail and slacker silliness. Rolling Stone has called her "Canada's Best-Kept Secret," and her introspective, witty songwriting has earned her critical acclaim and a devoted following.
