About

Genticorum is a popular traditional Québécois musical trio based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The band formed in the autumn of 2000, and for over twenty years, the trio has earned a place of privilege on world, traditional, folk, and Celtic music stages. Members are Pascal Gemme (fiddle and vocals), Yann Falquet (guitar, jaw harp, and vocals), and Nicholas Williams (wooden flute, accordion), replacing Alexandre de Grosbois-Garand (wooden flute, bass, and vocals). Each member additionally provides percussion by clogging. Genticorum fuses modern composition and elements from classic folk and Celtic music. Their musical scores are original, largely based on Gemme's repertoire of fiddle tunes, while their lyrics are often traditional. All lyrics to their songs are in French. With multiple Canadian Folk Music Awards, as well as JUNO and ADISQ nominations, GENTICORUM have earned a reputation as a leading voice in the evolution of Québécois traditional music. Genticorum's 2005 second album "Malins Plaisirs" won the Canadian Folk Music Award for Best Ensemble and was nominated for a JUNO and the Félix Awards. The trio has won over audiences at such prestigious events as Celtic Connections in Scotland, the Tønder Folk Festival in Denmark, the National Folk Festival in Australia, the Independent Music Festival in Alexandria, Egypt, the Rain Forest Festival in Malaysia, as well as countless venues across North America.
