Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar are an eleven-piece band from Toronto, Canada, known for their blend of blues, soul, gospel, and rock. Samantha Martin formed the soul and blues focused band Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar in 2014. The band's name stems from Martin's love of Southern blues traditions. Martin was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and grew up north of Toronto in a tiny town called Lion's Head. She was seven years old when her dad bought her first guitar, and her musical tastes were influenced by blues, funk, soul and R&B. Martin has released five full-length albums, one as a solo act, one with Samantha Martin and The Haggard, and three with Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar. Their debut record Send the Nightingale, was released in 2015 and received four nominations at the 2015 Maple Blues Awards, including Best Female Vocalist, Best Songwriter, Best New Group, and Best New Album/Producer. Their record Run to Me was released on April 28, 2018 and was nominated for a Juno Award for Blues Album of the Year. The album The Reckless One was also nominated for a Juno Award for Blues Album of the Year. The band has achieved success both in Canada and internationally, with extensive touring in Europe and continued recognition in the Canadian blues and soul music scene. Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar's powerful vocals, tight arrangements, and infectious energy have made them one of Canada's premier blues and soul acts, known for their explosive live performances.
