Andy Shauf is a Canadian singer-songwriter born June 21, 1986, in Estevan, Saskatchewan, who grew up in Bienfait before moving to Regina. His parents ran an electronics and music store, giving him access to a variety of instruments. He plays several instruments including guitar, drums, and clarinet. Shauf played Christian music with his parents and was a drummer in the Christian pop-punk band Captain until 2006. He moved from Regina to Toronto in 2016, largely for a change in scenery but also to take advantage of the larger musical community. After two self-released albums in 2006 and 2007, Shauf released albums on Hopeless Records: "Darker Days" (2009) and "Waiting for the Sun to Leave" (2010), followed by the self-released EP "Sam Jones Feeds His Demons" (2012) and the album "The Bearer of Bad News" (2012). His album "The Party" was released in May 2016 and was a shortlisted finalist for the 2016 Polaris Music Prize. The song "Wendell Walker" was shortlisted for the 2016 SOCAN Songwriting Prize. In 2018, Shauf released a self-titled album with D.A. Kissick, Avery Kissick, and Dallas Bryson under the band name Foxwarren, which received a JUNO Award nomination for Alternative Album of the Year at the 2020 JUNO Awards. "The Neon Skyline" was released January 24, 2020. Shauf's music is characterized by intricate storytelling, cinematic narratives, and meticulous attention to lyrical and sonic detail, creating intimate portraits of everyday life.
