Salomé Leclerc was born on April 27, 1986, in Sainte-François-de-Lotbinière, Quebec. She is the youngest of three children in a family where music always played an important role, and by age ten, she was playing drums in her two brothers' band before turning to composing her own songs. Leclerc studied music at the École de la chanson de Granby, before releasing her debut album Sous les arbres in 2011. Her first album won a prize from the Société professionnelle des auteurs et compositeurs du Québec (SPACQ), and she received a SOCAN Songwriting Prize nomination in 2012 for the song Dans la prairie. Three years later, she released 27 fois l'aurore, winning the Prix Rapsat-Lelièvre which allowed her to gain recognition in Belgium. In 2019, she appeared on the Polaris Prize long list for her album Les choses extérieures, which she produced herself. This self-production marked a significant milestone in her career, as she took on all aspects of the album creation and even played all the instruments herself. Salomé Leclerc's poetic lyrics, distinctive voice, and artistic independence have made her one of Quebec's most respected francophone singer-songwriters. Her ability to create intimate, personal music while addressing universal themes has earned her a devoted following in Quebec and beyond. Her work represents a new generation of Quebec artists who honor the province's rich musical traditions while pushing creative boundaries.
