About

Alfie Zappacosta, born Alfredo Peter Zappacosta on July 5, 1953 in Italy, is an Italian-born Canadian musician whose career has spanned over 40 years as one of Canada's premier songwriters and performers. After immigrating to Canada, Zappacosta's first band was Surrender, a five-piece group that recorded three albums in the late 1970s and early 1980s. His breakthrough came in 1984 with his self-titled solo album containing hit singles "Passion" and "We Should Be Lovers," earning him the Juno Award for Most Promising Male Vocalist. His song "Overload" was featured on the massively successful 1987 Dirty Dancing soundtrack, one of the biggest-selling soundtracks of the 1980s. In 1990, Zappacosta transitioned to musical theatre, portraying Christ in Jesus Christ Superstar and Che Guevara in Evita for Andrew Lloyd Webber productions. His powerful vocals and theatrical presence have made him a beloved figure in Canadian pop and rock music. With a career that has seamlessly moved between rock stardom and musical theatre excellence, Zappacosta remains an enduring talent in Canadian entertainment.
