About

Grant Lawrence, born July 30, 1971, is a Canadian broadcaster, musician, and bestselling author primarily associated with CBC Music and CBC Radio 3. Starting his CBC career in 1998 at age 27, Lawrence became a researcher on the newly created RadioSonic before becoming host in 2001. In 2005, he launched the CBC Radio 3 Podcast, the CBC's first-ever original podcast, which ran for twelve years and showcased thousands of independent Canadian musicians and bands. Lawrence also serves as host of CBC Music's The Strombo Show and previously hosted CBC Radio One's summer series The Wild Side. As a musician, he was vocalist for the indie rock group The Smugglers. His literary career is equally impressive—his 2010 memoir Adventures in Solitude became a bestseller, and his 2022 sequel Return to Solitude was the highest-selling BC book of that year. The Beetle Roadtrip Sessions, a web series he created with director Brent Hodge, won Best Original Program for Digital Media at the 2nd Canadian Screen Awards. Married to singer-songwriter Jill Barber, Lawrence remains one of Canada's most influential voices in independent music promotion.
