Ashleigh Ball, born March 31, 1983 in Vancouver, British Columbia, is a Canadian voice actress and musician who has achieved success in both fields. As a musician, Ball joined the alternative rock band Hey Ocean! in 2004 as singer and flutist, contributing to the band's unique indie-pop sound. In 2017, she released her first solo EP, Gold in You, showcasing her songwriting and vocal abilities. Her voice acting career has been equally remarkable—she voiced two main characters in the long-running animated series My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic (2010-2019), bringing to life both the stubborn apple farmer Applejack and the confident speedster Rainbow Dash. Ball's versatility extends to numerous other voice roles in series including Johnny Test (2006-2014), Barbie films, Bratz, and Littlest Pet Shop. She was the subject of the documentary A Brony Tale, directed by Brent Hodge, which follows her through her first interactions with the brony community at BronyCon 2012, capturing the unique cultural phenomenon surrounding the show and Ball's gracious engagement with devoted fans.
