Dustin Bentall is a Vancouver-born singer-songwriter and the son of Canadian roots rocker Barney Bentall. Raised on the music of Neil Young, The Band, Bob Dylan, John Prine, and Steve Earle, Dustin learned guitar during a sailboat trip when his father taught him "Knockin' On Heaven's Door." His musical journey took a dramatic turn in 2004 during a two-month trip through Canada with a friend—both were severely injured in a car accident, a near-death experience that profoundly influenced his songwriting. His debut album Streets With No Lights (2007) demonstrated maturity beyond his years, earning critical acclaim. Bentall's song "Nine Inch Nails," co-written with Ridley Bent, won 2008's Country Song of the Year at the Independent Music Awards of North America. He has toured extensively across Canada to Nashville and overseas to Denmark and Ireland, opening shows for Kathleen Edwards, Blue Rodeo, Sam Roberts, and Matt Mays. His band Dustin Bentall and the Smokes has become known for their energetic live performances that blend country, rock, and roots music influences.
